You're Enough - In His Hands
by Molly Shorter
Musicians, I have a question for you. Have you ever thought that you don't have enough of what it takes to be in the music ministry? Have you had thoughts of insufficiency in your musical talent? Maybe you have measured your musical abilities against someone else and now think you just have "too little" to be useful.
If so, I have a story I want to remind you of from Matthew 14:15-21.
Now when it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a desolate place, and the day is now over; send the crowds away to go into the villages and buy food for themselves." But Jesus said, "They need not go away; you give them something to eat." They said to him, "We have only five loaves here and two fish." And he said, "Bring them here to me." Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass, and taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing. Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over. And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children. (ESV)
You know what my favorite part of this story is? When Jesus tells the disciples "you give them something to eat" and the disciples respond (as most of us would) "we only have five loaves and two fish"! They are saying, "Do you realize that there's a huge crowd to feed? And we have one little fella's lunch - a little bread and fish!" You know what the truth of this story is? If you put the little that you have in God's Hands, He will multiply it. That little lunch fed thousands!
If God has entrusted to you a musical gift He wants you to put it in His Hands and allow Him to multiply it. If He's putting opportunities before you, jump in and watch Him work. You may not feel like you have enough but in His Hands you have more than enough. I can personally give testimony to this. I remember back in the day shaking from head to toe as I sat at the piano and sang in church. But God took the little and grew it! When He calls you to an opportunity He will equip you!
Dear musicians lay those talents at His feet and take the opportunities He's put before you. When He says, "Give them something to eat" instead of responding with "Lord I have too little" respond by placing what you have, your musical gifts, in His Hands. Trust Him to grow it. There's more than enough in His Hands!
